The only college meant for imparting Womens Education in the District of Dakshin Dianjpur BALURGHAT MAHILA MAHAVIDYALAYA was founded on 12th August. 1970, thanks, to the honest initiatives of Educationists and local people. Mention must be made of the Late Dr. Atul Cnandra Chakraborty, the Late Nilkanta Bagchi, the late Satindra Nath Basu, the late Kamalendu Chakraborty, the Late Bomkesh Chakraborty, me Late Dhirendra Nath Banerjee and the Late Nishith Ranjan Acharya etc, he college could not come into being without the active co-operation of District and State Administration. The then District Magistrates, Mr. Jaladmdu Misra, I.A.S. and Mr. Satyendra Nath Ghosh, I.A.S. and S.D.O. (Sadar) Mr Nirmal Sen and moreover Mr. J.C. Sengupta the then Education Secretary, Govt. of West Bengal extended their helping hand.
For the purpose of affiliation, the college got help from Mr. Anandamoy Bhattacharya, a member of the University Executive Council and Dr. P.C. Mukherjee the Vice Chancellor of the North Bengal University. The local people generously contributed land and Govt. of West Bengal and University Grants Commission offered the financial assistance time to time.
Now the college emerging as a full-fledged unit with Honours affiliation in English, Philosophy, History, Political Science, Bengali, Sanskrit, Geography, Zoology, Botany and affiliation in Humanities & Science caters to the need of local people.
