ECONOMICS

History of the Department :

The department of Economics offering only general course with its inception in 1971 is running by full time faculty to fulfil the students need. It has two sanctioned teaching post presently with one Associate and one Assistant Professor serving the department. Teachers have active involvement in multiple activities of the college both curricular and non-curricular. In addition to regular departmental teaching classes of environmental studies had been taken by the faculty for a long period (18 years).

Objective of the Department :

Departmental teaching is facilitated through-

• Regular classroom lectures.
• Provision of different reference material, notes and tutorials.
• Remedial classes are organised as and when necessary.

Students have been encouraged to conduct quiz-competition, debates and to prepare project report. Departmental teachers are trying to inculcate good values among the students. So, as to undertake projects in various socio-economic fields. They often participate in classroom discussion on current economic problems.

Major Milestone since inception of the Department :

1. Our pride is our student’s continuous remarkable results in university exams as well as college examinations. Success rate is almost 99 per cent.
2. One retired Associate Professor of our department is the recipient of “Banga Ratna” award of Government of West Bengal and she donated a sum of Rs. 30 lakh for the construction of science-building of our college.
3. Departmental students participated in various social works and filed survey programme through NSS.
4. Published our Magazine on NSS activities, wall-magazine (periodical), preparation of AQAR & News letter etc.

Future Plan

To open the Honours course since this subject dictates the material world.

To carry out the existing discussion with the students on current job oriented issues to face the competitive exam.

To publish departmental magazine.
