History of the Department :

The department of Political Science is one of the leading departments of Balurghat Mahila Mahavidyalaya, it started its journey since the inception of this institution that is from 1970. At present the department has three teachers. One Assistant Professor and other two are the SACT teachers. They are namely Arup Ghosh, Surupa Bhowmik and Subhajit Kundu.

Objective of the Department :

The prime objective of the department is to increase the understanding of political science, its research and analytical skills. This includes the ability to think critically and to construct logical arguments, to collect, analyse and interprete facts and datas and to formulate reasonable conclusions. Teachers of the department are not only indulging in theoretical discussion but they are always tried to make girls aware to their rights and duties. Through the subject, teachers are devoted towards the empowerment of girl students and try to make them aware and alert towards the system that starts from their home to outer world.

Course offered :

The department of political science offers both Honours and General courses for the students. At present total 236 students studied political science in the department.

Co-curricular activities :

In order to make students forward several tests and co-curricular activities are conducted regularly. The department had organized online Special Lecture during the pandemic period to motivate and encourage students. The department published Wall Magazine namely ‘Arshi’ where the students are actively participated.

Major milestone :

Through proper guidance of our teachers the department has won Youth Parliament competition several times. Just before the Covid pandemic started our students went to the state level in YPC. After passing out from the department, several students get chance into different universities and get suitable jobs.

Future plan :

Our future plan is to introduced field survey, excursion etc., We have a plan to make a good updated library for students that would meet the students needs. As there has been a lot of opportunity in competitive exam, our plan is to provide our students a free coaching which would help our students to crack any kind of competitive examinations.
